Well it happens every May. The school year starts to come to a close and parents, grandparents, teachers, bus drivers, and every family member surrounding a student becomes super busy. This causes a little slow down in the showings of real estate around Atlanta. Most schools will end their year in about 2 weeks and things will get back to normal. 2937 new listings hit the MLS this week and 1381 properties went under contract. In the first week of April 1162 homes went under contract, this tells us the real estate market is still doing great and picking up that spring momentum even with the end of school approaching. Interest rates today are 6.8% up about 1 basis point since last week. Markets are still volatile because of the economy. The 10 year treasury is the main benchmark for mortgage rates. In the last few weeks it has moved sharply going below 4 percent then above 4.5 percent finally settling down at 4.2 percent. This volatility is why we feel a little like we are on a mortgage tilt a whirl.
