Radon is an odorless, tasteless, and colorless gas that is the #1 cause of Lung Cancer in the United States. Any home can have a Radon problem. This means new and old homes, well-sealed and drafty homes, as well as homes with or without basements.
The University of Georgia Extension Office has Radon test kits you can buy for $15. If you click this link it will take you to the Extension offices link to order a test kit. https://estore.uga.edu/C27063_ustores/web/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCTID=4697
My house had Radon levels many times, the cancer-causing level. It is an easy issue to take care of. All you have to do is contact a Radon Mitigation company and they will drill 1-3 holes in the foundation and install a small vacuum that takes the gas from under your home and then blows the air out through a pipe over the house. In the open air, Radon is not dangerous. If you end up with high levels of Radon you can call Athens Radon to get a mitigation. Prices tend to range from $1500-$2500 depending on the size of your foundation, the number of holes they need to make in the slab and the amount of equipment they need.
